Sheryl Mehrhoff
Sheryl began working at Saint Andrew's as the Parish Administrator in January 2007 following a long career in education. Much of her office experience comes from three years coordinating gifted student programs in the Albany Area School District, Minnesota, and later, five years teaching preschool through 8th graders in a Lutheran school computer lab. She also assisted in her home church office while in high school, spent one year as a secretary in the Graduate Institute of Education at Washington University, St. Louis, and a summer working in a lawyer's office. Sheryl graduated from Concordia Teacher College in Seward, Nebraska, with three majors (religion, education, and social sciences) and two minors (primary education and organ performance). She has a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri, and has worked in a wide range of settings and with students from preschool through college level. Sheryl and her husband Arthur joined St. Andrew's Lutheran Church when they moved to Columbia in 2003.

Among the products and blessings of Saint Andrew’s existence have been the significant number of our congregation called to the ministry. In about the last 30 years at Saint Andrew's, where in our beginning Lutherans were so rare that neighbors once asked the late Pastor Morris Niedenthal if his church was to be a new sect or cult, nine of us have been inspired to study and spread the Gospel as ordained Lutheran ministers around the world. They worshiped with us, they communed with us, and they prayed with us. The Reverends Garrett Struessel, Steve Sylvester, Cathy Rosenholtz, Melissa Afdahl and Anna Murphy Ballan, grew up and were confirmed at St. Andrew’s. Reverend Chad Langdon became a part of St. Andrew’s while attending college and the Reverends Maureen Howard, Scott Simmons and Ted Carnahan began attending and became an integral part of our congregation a bit later in life before taking the next step toward the ministry.
The Apostle Andrew – it seems – was just a bit player. In the drama of Jesus’ earthly ministry and of the early church, he does not get top billing. Even so… In the three stories where he does have a role [John 1, 6, 12] significant results follow his bit part. Of the thousands of people who have entered our congregation for worship and then re-entered the world for service, most of us may seem only bit part players in the world’s drama. Even so, these are the people, the hands and the voices God has used, and will continue to use to bring to reality Jesus’ words: I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. [John 10:10] We praise God for all who have shared their unique parts, contributing to the ministry of Saint Andrew’s, to the abundant joy that many have and will continue to receive.
