Kent Tritle is one of America’s leading choral conductors. Called “the brightest star in New York's choral music world” by The New York Times, he is in his third season as Director of Cathedral Music and Organist at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City; his seventh season as Music Director of Musica Sacra, the longest continuously performing professional chorus in New York; and his ninth season as Music Director of the Oratorio Society of New York, the acclaimed 200-voice volunteer chorus.

In addition, Kent is Director of Choral Activities at the Manhattan School of Music and is a member of the graduate faculty of The Juilliard School. He is the host of the weekly radio show “The Choral Mix with Kent Tritle,” a weekly hour-long radio program on New York’s Classical 105.9 WQXR and www.wqxr.org devoted to the vibrant genre of choral music and the breadth of activity in the choral community. An acclaimed organ virtuoso, he is also the organist of the New York Philharmonic and the American Symphony Orchestra.

Ugandan Orphans Choir Performed at St. Andrew’s Sept.28 and 29, 2013

Under the ministry of Childcare Worldwide, the Ugandan Orphans Choir was at St.Andrew’s the weekend of September 28/29! They presented a 1 hour program on Saturday at 6:30 pm and a 30 minute program during both services on Sunday morning. The choir is made up of 10 children, ages 10-12, who have been orphaned but now receive hope through Childcare’s sponsorship program. Childcare Worldwide is a non-denominational organization which is very Christ-centered. The unique programs not only help feed hungry children, but the children receive an education that leads to employment. Children are trained to have Christ-like character and to grow up to be leaders with integrity. Their mission is to build a bridge between concerned people in the West and children in the developing world by meeting their spiritual and physical needs through a ministry that emphasizes education and is based on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

This choir travels with 3 adult chaperones and the choir director. They sing, play their African drums and other instruments, dance traditional dances in native costumes, and sing folk songs in their own language (Luganda). In addition, the choir has some contemporary worship songs in English they sing as well. Their joy is infectious. The education that host congregations receive is valuable in widening appreciation for the needs of orphans in Uganda and other developing countries, as well as demonstrating God's power for change in their lives.
